SEVEN is Alison Lewis' debut album, featuring superbly unique takes on some of America's most beloved songs plus several originals. SEVEN placed in the top 40 of the RMR and CMJ charts for eight weeks, peaking at #13 and #17 respectively. The music reflects the artist's careful re-imagining process wherein the rhythm, melody and/or underlying chords of a classic may be altered in order to uncover a new and deeper appreciation for the song's meaning.
SEVEN has received significant airplay both nationally and internationally, as well as garnered a great deal of critical acclaim. Here is what some of the press had to say:
"Moved by intuition, she instinctively connects emotionally to the lyrics, making the listener contemplate each word, seeing songs like Irving Berlin's "Cheek to Cheek" and Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" in a new light, a way that makes the songs seem even more brilliant than their original version." Susan Frances, AXS
"... every once in a while I find a gem that blows me away. Alison Lewis' CD "Seven" is one of those gems, a new CD in a world of its own!... Alison Lewis is one of the best singers I have heard in quite a while. Why you ask? First, her voice is pure and strong, she has perfect pitch and a unique understanding of lyrics. But what puts her over the top is her vocal and musical arrangements that are new, fresh and a treat for the ears!" Bob Nicosia of MusicManBlog.com
"Seven is a tour-de-force, varied in styles of jazz, what is best about today’s jazz vocal offerings, but taken to task by a highly qualified and potent vocalist. One I hope to hear for years to come. Well done, and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED." Constance Tucker of All About Vocals
